Lead Acid Battery - Basic Principles

The fundamental theory of the battery is that a voltage is developed between two electrodes of dissimilar metal when they are immersed in an electrolyte. In the typical lead-acid cell the generated voltage is 2.1 volts. A typical 12 volt Lead Acid Battery consists of 6 cells with Lead Dioxide (Positive Plate), Sponge Lead (negative plate) and Sulphuric Acid (H2S04) - electrolyte. In a normal discharge operation the lead reacts with sulphuric acid and become lead sulphate and water. This dilutes electrolyte. During a charging operation the reverse process take place. Lithium air batteries are three times better

A lithium-air batteries are batteries lithium anode is electrochemically coupled to atmospheric oxygen through an air cathode. During discharge, lithium cations flow from the anode through an electrolyte and combine with oxygen at the cathode to form lithium oxide Li2O or lithium peroxide Li2O2 which is inserted in the cathode; this is coupled to the flow of electrons from the battery's anode to the cathode through a load circuit. The lithium ion batteries used in laptops and cellphones. Reversibility of the reaction to allow electrical recharge of Lithium-air is possible.
Lithium air cells have higher energy mass than lithium ion cells because of the lighter cathode and the fact that oxygen is freely available in the environment and does not need to be stored in the battery. It is considered that Lithium air batteries are three times better. With oxygen as an unlimited cathode reactant, the capacity of the battery is limited by the Li anode. Electric Current from Plants

Stanford scientists have invented a new source of electric energy production from a process that is very similar to photosynthesis, a plant's method of converting sunlight to chemical energy. It may be a first step toward generating "high efficiency" bioelectricity that doesn't give off carbon dioxide as a by-product. The scientists developed an unique, ultra-sharp nanoelectrode made of gold, and gently pushed it through the algal cell membranes. From the photosynthesizing cells, the electrode collected electrons that had been energized by light and the researchers generated a tiny electric current. This can developed to a considerable quantity of electric power and in future can be used to generate electric power for the portable electric equipments and later will be a solution for the energy crisis we face.

Stanford engineers have generated electrical current by tapping into the electron activity in individual algae cells. This may be the first step toward carbon-free electricity directly from plants. Electric shock

Electric shock is also called "Electrical Stunning" and means that electric current passes through part of the human body. The severity of electric shock depends on the voltage and the path over which the current flows. If electric shock is mild, you will just feel tingling sensation, but severe one can cause a burn, respiratory depression, heart damage, and death at the worst. The resistance of human skin is around 5kW when it is dry and the voltage is 100V. It is around 2kW when it is wet. The body resistance is around 300W. If coming in contact with the voltage of 100V when the skin is wet, 22mA of current will flow through the human body and you cannot let go of it on your own. That is why you should avoid working with wet hands.

Aluminum Conductor Composite Reinforced (ACCR) is a rather new comer to towerline power transmission technology. ACCR can deliver 2 to 3 times the capacity without the risks and delays of major construction projects. On time, in budget, back toACCR service – with proven reliability. Aluminum Conductor Composite Reinforced (ACCR) is overhead transmission conductor like ACSR and ACSS, with higher ampere capacity with less thermal expansion (sag). Solar Space Heating: Solar Space Heating is another area where we can easily use solar energy. From a design standpoint, collecting sunlight with an active solar system is relatively simple. This is because an active solar system has no effect on direct solar heat gain into the building, and it has no effect on day lighting. The main problem is equipment cost, which is high in relation to the value of the energy that is recovered.

Electrical System Protection is a very important field of study. Most of the design engineers find it difficult to Electrical Protection System protect their equipments from voltage surges, power breakers, fluctuations etc. There are several standard projections used for electrical power systems. The basic protection systems are Overload Protection, Under voltage Protection, Overvoltage Protection, Phase Failure Protection, Phase Sequence Reversal Protection. The first one that is Overload or over current protection is sufficient for majority or equipments. A simple schematic is given in the figure. This is a basic circuit that trigger an opening solenoid and protect the system from overloads. Now you take any circuit around you and make a schematic of the same. Your schematic will look very same as this figure!

Indian Rupee got New Symbol!

The Indian rupee will have its own symbol, a mix of the Devanagri 'Ra' and Roman 'R', to become the fifth currency in the world to have a distinct identity. The new symbol, designed by IIT post-graduate D Uday Kumar. The new design also based on the tricolour with two lines at the top and white space in between.So India is moving to the group of countries that pocess a symbol for their currencies. Now US dollar, the British pound, the euro and the Japanese yen pocess their own symbols. Come on India, and Indian Rupee! Soon the computer key board will have new symbol for rupee. The Indian currency also will come with new symbol very soon.

Ultra Rapid circuit breaker

An Electrical Circuit Breaker is a device that makes or breaks an electric supply. An Electrical Circuit Breaker is also equipped with protective devices and operated very fast.
