If a transformer breaker trips with bucholz relay action, the transformer should not be charged before conducting detailed investigation. The high voltage and low voltage sides of the transformer should be isolated. DC supply to and from Bucholz relay is also to be isolated. The gas collected in the Bucholz relay has to be tested as detailed below.
- Examine Bucholz relay.
- Note and record the quality and colour of gas collected. A colour less accumulation usually indicates the presence of air.
- Release a small quantity of gas and smell. Peculiar smell other than oil smell is not desirable.
- Prepare silver nitrate solution of any concentration in a oil bottle (the solution must be clear).
- Allow some quantity of gas to bubble through this clear solution of silver nitrate.
- If there is no change in the colour of the solution, it generally indicates that the gas is merely air. Whitish precipitation-decomposition of paper. Yellow precipitation-decomposition of wood. deep grey-gas of over heated oil due to burning of iron. Black-gas of decomposed oil due to electric arc.
- If a precipitate is obtained, thorough examination of the transformer should be made at the earliest opportunity.

Green energy is getting popularity now. But to make green energy it require a lot of efforts and capital. But one who love nature and want to save nature can promote LED lights and LED Bulbs. LEDs are better energy efficiency over incandescent bulbs and most halogen bulbs, Saving energy 80% to 90%. Add to this the long life span for these lamps. LED lights lasts ten times more than CFL or other florescent lamps. Let us know the details of benefits of LED lamps over other lights. LEDs have very long operating life and it can live up to 100,000 hours. The operating voltage for LED is very low and it can work on both DC and AC volts. Low voltage DC operation (12V AC/DC) or Mains voltage operation make this flexible for Input voltage between AC 85V and AC265V, or any voltage for customized design. Low heat radiation helps LED to produce cool light output. LEDs produce no UV or heat energy, and the energy loss will be less. Narrow, medium and wide angle lenses are available for LED. LEDs are available in any combination of lighting colours. LEDs produce Warm White (2700K to 4300k), Daylight white / Cool White (5000K to 6500K, natural sunlight in colour), Cool white (up to 8000K), Amber, Orange, Pink, Red, Cyan, Blue, Royal Blue, Green. LED lights are available in very low watts and can be added together to form sufficient light. LEDs can be used for Home lighting, Vehicle lights, Residential Lighting, Commercial Lighting, Accent Lighting, Reading Lights, Display Lighting, Desk Lamps, etc.

The fundamental theory of the battery is that a voltage is developed between two electrodes of dissimilar metal when they are immersed in an electrolyte. In the typical lead-acid cell the generated voltage is 2.1 volts. A typical 12 volt Lead Acid Battery consists of 6 cells with Lead Dioxide (Positive Plate), Sponge Lead (negative plate) and Sulphuric Acid (H2S04) - electrolyte. In a normal discharge operation the lead reacts with sulphuric acid and become lead sulphate and water. This dilutes electrolyte. During a charging operation the reverse process take place. Watch the figure below to understand the discharge process.

Lithium air cells have higher energy mass than lithium ion cells because of the lighter cathode and the fact that oxygen is freely available in the environment and does not need to be stored in the battery. It is considered that Lithium air batteries are three times better. With oxygen as an unlimited cathode reactant, the capacity of the battery is limited by the Li anode. Lithium air batteries are currently under development and are not yet commercially available. Watch a comparison statement showing battery capacities of various types of batteries.

Stanford scientists have invented a new source of electric energy production from a process that is very similar to photosynthesis, a plant's method of converting sunlight to chemical energy. It may be a first step toward generating "high efficiency" bioelectricity that doesn't give off carbon dioxide as a by-product. The scientists developed an unique, ultra-sharp nanoelectrode made of gold, and gently pushed it through the algal cell membranes. From the photosynthesizing cells, the electrode collected electrons that had been energized by light and the researchers generated a tiny electric current. This can developed to a considerable quantity of electric power and in future can be used to generate electric power for the portable electric equipments and later will be a solution for the energy crisis we face.
Stanford engineers have generated electrical current by tapping into the electron activity in individual algae cells. This may be the first step toward carbon-free electricity directly from plants. There are more news coming up from various corners about more experiments and achievements. Read this press release for more information.

Electric shock is also called "Electrical Stunning" and means that electric current passes through part of the human body. The severity of electric shock depends on the voltage and the path over which the current flows. If electric shock is mild, you will just feel tingling sensation, but severe one can cause a burn, respiratory depression, heart damage, and death at the worst. The resistance of human skin is around 5kW when it is dry and the voltage is 100V. It is around 2kW when it is wet. The body resistance is around 300W. If coming in contact with the voltage of 100V when the skin is wet, 22mA of current will flow through the human body and you cannot let go of it on your own. That is why you should avoid working with wet hands.

Muscle contraction is so severe that you cannot let go of the circuit on your own.

Aluminum Conductor Composite Reinforced (ACCR) is a rather new comer to towerline power transmission technology. ACCR can deliver 2 to 3 times the capacity without the risks and delays of major construction projects. On time, in budget, back to service – with proven reliability. Aluminum Conductor Composite Reinforced (ACCR) is overhead transmission conductor like ACSR and ACSS, with higher ampere capacity with less thermal expansion (sag). ACCR can carry two or more times the current of a standard conductor of comparable diameter. It has less weight and sag, but the same strength and can be installed to meet your tension and clearance requirements. This allows you to maximize the capacity of your transmission upgrade using existing structures and rights of way. Compared to a rebuild project, you can get your upgrade done faster and with fewer permitting requirements. ACCR can be used any place standard ACSR conductor. ACCR's core is aluminum-based, rather than steel, it is more conductive than steel core conductors, resulting in lower losses under the same operating conditions. In addition, 3M ACCR comes in a trapezoidal wire design that can improve conductivity up to 28% compared to the same size, round wire ACSR. ACCR Conductors cost around 4 times of the standard conductors. See how easy ACCR is to install by viewing the Installation videos. Click the link below to view the Installation Equipment, Procedures and Hardware videos, as seen at IEEE PES 2008. Installation Equipment, Procedures and Hardware Videos

Electrical engineering is a field of engineering that generally deals with the study and application of electricity, electronics and electromagnetism. The field first became an identifiable occupation in the late nineteenth century after commercialization of the electric telegraph and electrical power supply. It now covers a range of subtopics including power, electronics, control systems, signal processing and telecommunications.
Electrical engineering may or may not include electronic engineering. Where a distinction is made, usually outside of the United States, electrical engineering is considered to deal with the problems associated with large-scale electrical systems such as power transmission and motor control, whereas electronic engineering deals with the study of small-scale electronic systems including computers and integrated circuits. Alternatively, electrical engineers are usually concerned with using electricity to transmit energy, while electronic engineers are concerned with using electricity to transmit information. More recently, the distinction has become blurred by the growth of power electronics.

Read this advertisement of a book - The formal education of an electrical engineer is primarily mathematics and theory, with little practical information taught. Every beginning engineer needs a mentor to teach them the things that aren't taught in engineering school, but often lacks such a guide. This book fills that gap between theory and practice. Written by an expert electronics engineer who enjoys teaching the practical side of engineering, it covers all the subjects that a beginning EE needs to know: intuitive circuit and signal analysis, physical equivalents of electrical components, proper use of an oscilloscope, troubleshooting both digital and analog circuits, and much more.I have collected this from E-bay.
Effective use of solar energy is the only solution for solving energy problems of the era. Non-conventional energy sources are investigated, but solar energy that is proved as high quality natural resource is remain un-tapped. The main reason is the lack of technology and cost of equipments. Today in this blog we will talk about two major use of solar energy that can be realized by minimum use of equipments. Let us try to use this sustainable energy source to its full potential and save electricity.
Day lighting: The amount of sunlight falling on a building, even on a cloudy day, is theoretically sufficient to provide all lighting requirements. The practical challenge is distributing sunlight throughout the building. For a large building, day lighting is limited to perimeter areas and the interior areas are lighted up by electric lighting system. For effectively using the sun light to interior areas new methods and equipment are needed. Only by effective approach the full potential of day lighting in all buildings.
Solar Space Heating: Solar Space Heating is another area where we can easily use solar energy. From a design standpoint, collecting sunlight with an active solar system is relatively simple. This is because an active solar system has no effect on direct solar heat gain into the building, and it has no effect on day lighting. The main problem is equipment cost, which is high in relation to the value of the energy that is recovered.

Electrical System Protection is a very important field of study. Most of the design engineers find it difficult to protect their equipments from voltage surges, power breakers, fluctuations etc. There are several standard projections used for electrical power systems. The basic protection systems are Overload Protection, Under voltage Protection, Overvoltage Protection, Phase Failure Protection, Phase Sequence Reversal Protection. The first one that is Overload or over current protection is sufficient for majority or equipments. A simple schematic is given in the figure. This is a basic circuit that trigger an opening solenoid and protect the system from overloads. Now you take any circuit around you and make a schematic of the same. Your schematic will look very same as this figure!

Freenet is a decentralized, censorship-resistant distributed data store originally designed by Ian Clarke. According to Clarke, Freenet aims to provide……Freenet is free software which lets you anonymously share files, browse and publish "freesites" (web sites accessible only through Freenet) and chat on forums, without fear of censorship. Freenet is decentralised to make it less vulnerable to attack, and if used in "darknet" mode, where users only connect to their friends, is very difficult to detect. A free-net was originally meant to mean a computer system which provides public access to a large number of resources including community information. For best performance, Freenet will run continually. It should not interfere with your computer usage, as it requires around 200MB of RAM and 10% of one CPU.
